January 2015: my plans for the year are filling in fast. So far, I will be catching Greenshank in Sutherland to retrieve the geolocators we put on birds last year, to see where they spend the non-breeding period. Then I will be surveying Golden Eagles in Sutherland and studying their breeding success, what food is available for them and what they eat. And while in that same area I will be surveying Ptarmigan and the habitats they are living in. Somewhere in that, I have to find time to nip over to northern Norway to catch Broad-billed Sandpipers which we attached geolocators to last year, as with the greenshank, to discover where they overwinter. By then it will be July and time to head south and begin my annual study of Tawny Frogmouths.
